Pear-shaped

Women with this shape has a wider lower body which means the hips are wider than the shoulders. The key to flattery is to wear a dress that draws more attention on the upper body.

One may choose to wear a strapless dress that is if you are comfortable showing a little bit of skin. A halter or spaghetti strap dress also gives the shoulders a good attention. It makes the shoulder look broader balancing the body shape. One may also choose to wear a dress with boat neckline or cap-sleeves to draw more attention on the upper part.

To give you an idea, check the styles of these celebrities: Beyoncé Knowles, Eva Mendes, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Jennifer Lopez, Katherine Heigl, Kim Kardashian, Kelly Clarkson and Shakira.

Apple-shaped

Women with this shape are usually plumper in the middle with an ample bust and slimmer hips. Moreover, this shape is often described as round and difficult to dress.  But not to worry because there are dresses that fits perfectly on an apple-shaped body.

First is wrap dress. This dress usually has a tie on the side that places more attention on the side rather than the tummy part. Furthermore, the dress forms an “A” shape that creates volume towards the legs making it look smaller.

Second is the Empire-line dress. One feature of this dress is the horizontal line formed underneath the bust. This creates an illusion wherein the fabric glosses over the middle part towards the legs. Celebrities with this body type include Catherine Zeta-Jones, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Hudson, Liz Hurley, Tyra Banks and Rosie O’Donnell.

Hourglass-shaped

This is considered as the perfect body shape since the shoulders and hips are proportional complete with a tiny waist. It is not difficult to find a dress for this type. Women can wear bodices to enhance the natural curves. Strapless or off-the-shoulder dresses are also perfect.

Though there are many options for hourglass-shaped figures, women should not go overboard in showing off the curves. Remember that too much of something is bad. For instance, heavily beaded dresses add volume making you appear heavier. So stay away from those designs.

Hourglass-shaped celebrities include Halle Berry, Kate Winslet, Mariah Carey, Marilyn Monroe, Salma Hayek, Scarlett Johansson and Vanessa Minnillo.

Rectangle-shaped

This type is similar with hourglass; however, women with this shape do not have the killer waist. Despite the balanced upper and lower part, the absence of a tiny waist radiates a slight masculine or sporty look.

The only thing needed is to create some curves. To do so, wear scoop-neck and sweetheart dresses to help create those curves. You may also accessorize and add a belt to create an hourglass figure. Details such as collars and ruffles also add volume to the chest.

Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson, Hilary Duff, Hilary Swank, Melanie C., Natalie Portman, Nicole Kidman, Rachel Hunter and Sheryl Crow are a few rectangle-shaped celebrities. You can check their styles to get some inspiration.
